About Lila Fuches

Two founders, one standard of work.

We started Lila Fuches in 2019. The idea is simple: senior technical help that doesn't arrive with the overhead of a big consultancy, or vanish behind a junior team once the contract is signed.

It's a partnership of technical leadership and operational care. Steve does the engineering, the writing and the teaching. Amy makes sure every engagement runs the way it should, from the first call to the last invoice.

01 The founders

Portrait of Steve McDougall

Steve McDougall

Co-founder, technical lead

Steve has spent more than fifteen years in engineering, as a CTO, an engineering manager, and a fractional CTO through more than one acquisition. He's known in the Laravel community and the API space for writing and teaching, and he does the technical work on every engagement himself.

Co-founder, operations lead

Amy runs how the work actually gets done: scoping, scheduling, keeping everyone informed, and making sure a project ends with the client better off than when it started. She's the reason senior-level help from us stays approachable and affordable.

02 How we work

  1. a.

    You get the founders

The people you speak to before the contract are the people who do the work after it. There's no hand-off to someone junior once it's signed.

  2. b.

Built for the team you'll have

We design for the team you'll have in two years, not just the code you need this quarter, and we leave things in a state your own people can carry on with.

  3. c.

    Plain English

No jargon for the sake of it. You'll get honest, actionable advice and status updates you can forward to someone non-technical without translating them first.

  4. d.

    Rooted in the community

A lot of what we recommend comes from years spent inside the Laravel and API communities, writing, teaching and building alongside the people who make the tools.
